At Heavenly Kids, we draw inspiration from the Reggio Emilia approach, emphasizing relationships, spaces, and the environment. These principles come to life in our classrooms, fostering interaction, exploration, and a sense of autonomy and curiosity. We believe the environment acts as the “third teacher,” fostering connections between ideas, people, and things.
Think about the places where you spend the majority of your time—your home, neighborhood, and workplace. These spaces and activities significantly impact how we feel and what seems possible within them. Being aware of how space and place shape our feelings about ourselves and each other is crucial.
In the 1970s, Reggio Emilia began a project that examined the relationship between their educational philosophy, school architecture, resources, and health and safety regulations. This project led to design principles that help each school cultivate its identity while maintaining consistent values across all schools.

Care and Beauty
The values of the Reggio Emilia approach and the unique identity of each school are communicated through classrooms and spaces. Schools have collaborated with local companies to design furniture that enhances children’s experiences and thinking. The environment, spaces, objects, and furniture are all beautifully crafted and arranged. This beauty is central to the educational experience, conveying care for the people and relationships within the space. It encourages both children and adults to take care of each other and the environment, fostering well-being, a sense of belonging, and aesthetic appreciation.
Environment as the Third Teacher | Children are highly sensitive to their surroundings, and spaces or materials suggest certain possibilities. At Heavenly Kids, teachers embrace this influence, recognizing the environment as the third teacher capable of stimulating and challenging children’s thinking. They pay close attention to the “intelligence” of materials—the natural and manufactured world’s ability to suggest specific uses or functions. Teachers explore materials to understand the possibilities they suggest, using them to enrich learning experiences.
Sustainability and Recycled MaterialsNatural objects (like wood, stones, and plants) and recycled materials (like plastic trays, pipes, and fabric scraps) are used to stimulate learning. At Heavenly Kids, we encourage empathy, sustainable material use, and resourcefulness, seeing new possibilities in natural and recycled objects. Children explore nature in its context, fostering a relationship with the environment.
Reggio Emilia’s recycling centers, known as Remida, collect and display offcuts and waste materials from local factories and artisans. These centers are a free resource for teachers, allowing them to explore material possibilities and gather what they need for their classrooms. Remida, named after King Midas, highlights that any material can be a treasure in the hands of children and educators.
In our classrooms, we set up provocations to inspire curiosity and imagination, fostering communication, collaboration, inquiry, and investigation—all essential elements of great learning.

Heavenly kids has been a great experience for me and my daughter. I am very impressed with the education they provide to such a young age group. In addition to academic learning, they are proactive with social emotional learning which is a huge plus for me. I appreciate the many events/classes provided for parents and family members to be actively engaged in our little one’s experience. There are many opportunities for parents to get involved and community organizations partner with HKCL making it a great resource. I have so many memorable moments at Heavenly Kids that I can't name them all, since my son has been here since he was 6 weeks old. I can say that I love it at Heavenly Kids and I'm sad that my son will be graduating to kindergarten next year.
